AI Use Statement

A statement describing my thoughts on using Generative AI in writing.

As a theory course, we examined issues surrounding AI, such as ethical use, authorship, and environmental sustainability; however, to better understand it, we created a variety of AI-generated artifacts. I created my use statement by synthesizing the class materials, student discussions, and my experiences using it.

The experience of not only reading about AI but also working with it gave me a deeper understanding of its benefits and drawbacks. As AI continues to evolve, I am more prepared to ethically and responsibly use it when necessary.

Multimodal AI Presentation

An AI-generated presentation created using multiple platforms.

Using AI-assisted communication tools helped me develop practical skills for working with AI-generated content across different media. Not only did this multimodal presentation give me the chance to experience how these tools work, but it also allowed me to evaluate their impact on content creation. 

To fully evaluate different modes of AI-generated materials, this project required a combination of AI tools to create a multimodal presentation. I created this in stages, beginning with ChatGPT as my writing tool. I continued with MS Designer for images, CapCut to produce video, and Gamma to meld it together. Although understanding how these platforms work, what is really important is understanding how I’m the human-in-the-loop—it is my impact and intentionality that enables AI to work as a writing tool.

Instructional Videos

Avatar-based AI-generated videos exploring audio and video creation.

These short, informational videos provide practice in developing and evaluating how generative AI tools produce synthetic video, both with and without presenters. Using an assignment document that I created for my graduate assistant Composition II classes, I used ChatGPT to write a script. From there, I developed two AI-generated videos. One used an avatar created with HeyGen to deliver the script, while the other used a voice generator without an avatar. Understanding my human-in-the-loop role makes me a more savvy user and consumer of AI-generated materials.
