Four-week Writing Unit
A four-week unit that leads first-year college students through weeks 2-5 of an introductory college composition course.
In this foundation online writing instruction course, I created a four-week unit that guides first-year college students through writing an exploratory essay. Creating the unit was an opportunity to develop and implement presence and interaction activities, implement effective course design, and ensure accessibility, which are the guiding principles of the OWI program.
As a student, this class gave me a unique perspective from which to approach the topic. I could see how these principles played out in my classes, which was immensely helpful for understanding the principles in action.

Four-week Writing Unit
A class website that leads college students through the final four weeks of an introductory college composition course.
Multimedia investigated how multimodal elements enhance and improve online learning experiences. Incorporating the learning design components found in all OWI classes (presence and interaction, course design, accessibility), my multimodal project focuses on videos and instructional materials delivered via a class website.
Developing this project provided practice using multimodal components to create a rich, accessible four-week project learning experience. Using multimodal materials, such as properly used videos, helped me better understand how accessibility, course design, and presence and interaction impact online classrooms.

Teaching Assistant Materials
Materials created while teaching Composition I & II as a graduate assistant.
As a graduate assistant teaching Composition I and II, I enjoyed the autonomy with which to teach each of my classes. Working from a provided shell course, I structured my classes around the shell while still making my own decisions. Adhering to the program’s online writing instruction principles, I organized my classes around presence and interaction, course design, and accessibility. In the same way that my students used reflection to learn, I reflected on the semester to note ways I could improve it in the future.
