Technical Writing
Making Complex Information Understandable
Technical writing principles can benefit a broad range of materials. My coursework includes a variety of examples that show my technical writing skills.

Book Index
A back-of-the-book index for an excerpt from Above the Well: An Antiracist Literacy Argument from a Boy of Color by Asao B. Inoue.
To build my technical writing skills, I took an indexing class. Not only did the class cover back-of-the-book indexes, but it also explored website indexing and search engine optimization. I found this class especially interesting because of my interest in technical writing, UX writing, and design. I was particularly drawn to the audience analysis (what do users need in an index) and the prioritization and organization this analysis demanded.

Information Visualization Dashboard
Interactive visualizations exploring immigrants’ dispersion within the labor force.
I took Information Visualization, a class outside the Rhetoric & Writing department, to deepen my understanding of the data visualization field. I wanted to learn to apply my technical writing skills to data-centric information.
For this group project, we gathered data that we used to answer our question through visualizations. These visualizations allow users to interactively explore our question through maps, charts, and filters. This experience enhanced my understanding of how technical writing works in visualizations.
